Fieldhouse Partners Attend Specialized Training

CAPE COAST, GHANA - This week, two members of the Nyanyano community along with Cheerful Hearts Foundation Project manager, Freeman Ahegbebu, traveled to Cape Coast to attend a specialized training hosted by partner organization, Play Soccer Ghana.

Play Soccer Ghana, invited 3 staff of the foundation to attend their Annual Volunteers Instructors and Management Training at the Oguaa football for Hope Center under the auspices of the 2012 FIFA World Cup Legacy Trust Fund. The five-day training program began yesterday and focuses on teaching participants how to effectively administer and run the Play For Fun, Learn For Life curriculum at the Fieldhouse beginning in March 2015. From Play Soccer Nonprofit International's website about the program:

Our year-round, integrated educational curriculum focuses on health, social, and soccer/football skills. While children learn to play the game, they also learn social skills like teamwork, fair play, and peaceful solutions, and health topics like HIV/AIDS and malaria prevention, good nutrition, hygiene and clean water. Each weekly session is a building block in an activity-based 48-week program that encourages children to put these new skills into practice on the playing field and in their daily lives at home and in the community.

The Play For Fun, Learn For Life program will compliment the Cheerful Heart's rehabilitation program for child workers seeking to re-enter the school system in Nyanyano.

In attendance at the training are Mr. Wahab, director of Play Soccer Ghana, Mrs. Georgina Quarshie (Board member-Play Soccer Ghana), Mr. Oti Akenten (Technical Director Ghana Football Association and Instructor for Confederation of African Football), Coach Kuku Dadzie (National Ghana Football Association Team Coach) Mr. Jonathan Hope (First Aid Expert), Mr. Edward Ansah (Lecturer Dept of Health, Physical and Recreation, University of Cape Coast), Former Science Director of the Ghana Education Service, Mr. Kakra Agyakwa (Monitoring and Evaluation Trainer) and several other volunteers and representatives of Partners of Play Soccer Ghana.
